SAIL THE GULF & QATAR MATCH RACING CUP 2015

Three cheers to all the sailors who made India and RMYC proud.

The Indian contingent put up a brilliant performance in the recently concluded 'SAIL THE GULF International Regatta' held at Doha, Qatar (3rd - 7th Feb 2015). This official event is recognized by the International Sailing Federation (ISAF) which is the world governing body affiliated to the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

Chinna Reddy and Yakubu both sponsored by Royal Madras Yacht Club (RMYC) bagged the GOLD in the Hobie 16, while the junior Indian team came first in the Optimist Team Racing with RMYC sailor Rishab Nayyar being part of the team. Vir Amar Menon stood 4th in the Laser Radial missing the bronze by 1 point. Rishab Nayyar stood 6th in the Optimist.

Chinna Reddy and Yakubu dominated in all the races against teams from UAE, Belgium, Romania, Australia, Great Britain and Germany. This was the best performance of the Indian contingent and it was a memorable sight as they collected their medals with the Indian flag displayed in the foreground to the tune of the national anthem.

First sailing Club in the South of India.

Located at Chennai (formerly known as Madras), the Royal Madras Yacht Club (RMYC) was the first sailing Club in the South of India. It was founded in 1911 by the then Chairman of The Madras Port Trust – Mr. Francis Spring in what was called the Timber Pond area of the Madras harbour.

Now, a century later, you will find that RMYC is still pursuing the ideals laid down at the very beginning. The Club’s primary purpose is “to promote the sport of sailing” in all its aspects. In the century gone by, one is proud to be associated with an institution that has done exactly what it set out to do.

We at RMYC pride ourselves in being an active, inclusive and family friendly Sailing Club, working together to encourage participation in the sport we all enjoy. Old or young, experienced or novice we welcome all those whose aim is to have “fun” on the waters.

From just a half a dozen races a year the Club now puts on a full and varied programme of racing (National & International) and cruising events all round the year to cater for sailors of every skill level.

With the fantastic sailing conditions that the coast off Chennai has to offer, our sailors are a part of the National Squad, represented the country in many international sailing events including the Asian Games.

So come...    join in and enjoy the action!
